DAY 2 SOUTH SHORE

Start your Icelandic adventure at the Eyjafjalla and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. You have the chance to walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, before calling in at Eyjafjallajokull’s visitor centre to find out about the volcanic eruptions of 2011.
Next, we’re going to head to the tiny settlement of Skógar and one of Iceland’s best folk museums, before arrival at Skógafoss waterfall – one of the country’s largest. Our journey then takes us past the Sólheimajökull glacier en route to the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara and the southernmost village in Iceland, Reynisfjara.

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 3 VATNAJÖKULL & SKAFTAFELL

Today you’ll cross the Laki lava field, believed to be the You have lava flow from a single eruption anywhere in the world. A further drive over huge fields of glacial sands gets you close to Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe. On a clear day you’ll see Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur.
On to Skaftafell National Park next, where you can walk to Skaftafellsjökull glacier, before we head to the Jokilsarlon Ice Lagoon.

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 4 WESTMANN ISLANDS

Still warm, since the 1973 eruption!

This is Patrick’s favourite part of the whole trip! We’ll stay on the Westmann Islands tonight, reached by a 30-minute ferry crossing. After the dramatic crossing and a short tour, we can walk up the crater from the 1973 eruption and even find some smouldering volcanic rocks.

We will of course see the famous ‘Elephant Rock’ and will look out to Surtsey – the island that was born in the 1960’s!
There is a lot to do on these small islands.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 5 GOLDEN CIRCLE

Drinking schnapps from organic, greenhouse-raised tomatoes

You’re heading back to Iceland’s capital today, for a three-night stay. Before arrival, a day of sightseeing starts at the mighty Gullfoss, or Golden Waterfall. The next wonders of nature you’ll view are the Geysirand and Strokkur geysers (where the word originates) at Haukadalur hot springs.
Later, we’ll learn how it’s possible to grow crops in Iceland’s cold climate at Fridheimar, a geothermal greenhouse, where we’ll take a break for lunch. Another delicious and unusual treat here is a drink of schnapps, which is served in a tomato!
Your day ends in UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, where you’ll get to walk along the Great Atlantic Rift. This is where two plates of the earth’s crust are slowly pulling Iceland apart.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 6 REYKJAVIK

This is your free day to explore and enjoy Reykjavik. Patrick usually visits one of the swimming pools (and maybe a local pub). You may choose to go whale-watching or visit a museum.

If you are interested in visiting the Blue Lagoon as a booked excursion please let us know when you contact us.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 7 SNÆFELLSNES NATIONAL PARK

On this last full day, we travel out to another area of outstanding beauty– the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Incredible sights here include craters, lava flows, fjords, sandy beaches and high cliffs.
We move on to the tiny village of Arnarstapi, to see a huge stone sculpture of Bárður Snæfellsás – a character from Viking legend who was half-human half-troll. More sculptures are displayed at Djúpárlónssandur but these have been created by nature. The bizarre rock formations and stones you’ll see have been shaped by the movements of the sea and are said to possess magical powers.
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 8 REYKJAVIK / Home

Enjoy a free morning before making your way to the airport for your flight back home.
