February Getaway: Costa Rica & Nicaragua!

Costa Rica & Nicaragua – Nature, Sun & History

Come join us on this custom 7 night trip, in conjunction with Galeria Cubana. This trip highlights the very best of beautiful Costa Rica and historic Nicaragua while offering some much-needed respite from February’s northern chill.

We have put this tour together based upon a request and consequently space is very limited.

Costa Rica is famously Latin America’s most educated country. Choosing to eliminate its army in 1948, the Rich Coast dedicated its resources to literacy and environmental protection.

Modern Costa Rica is friendly, open and intensely beautiful. It sits between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and is defined by a spine of volcanoes which have offered the country its nutrient-rich soil. Costa Rica’s coffee may be the best in the world!

Consequently, as a result of it’s size when approaching the green central valley close from the air, one can see both oceans. We will explore the Atlantic coast and the northern volcanic region.

ITINERARY

Feb. 25, 2018- San Jose, Costa Rica

Upon arrival to SJO international airport, we will transfer to our modern 4* hotel in San Jose. Afterwards, relax by the pool or explore the city.

Iguana hanging out in Tortuguero

Feb. 26 & 27, 2018- Tortuguero, Costa Rica

The following day we will be leaving the Central Valley. We will drive toward the Atlantic ocean, descending through numerous climatic zones before crossing banana plantations.

Next, we transfer by boat through the rainforest to our lodge in Tortuguero National Park. For two nights we will enjoy this beautiful and all-inclusive eco-lodge. During our time in the park we will look for birds, turtles (freshwater and ocean-going), learn about sea turtles. Furthermore we will also see iguanas, lizards and perhaps even caymans (small crocodiles).

Tortuguero is the most important eco-destination in Costa Rica and therefore numbers of visitors are controlled.

Feb. 28 & March 1, 2018- Arenal, Costa Rica

After a delightful boat ride back to the port, we will drive north through dramatic scenery to the Arenal tourist area of Costa Rica. Here we will settle in for two nights in a four-star hotel in order to enjoy a day with thermal pools and dinner. A wonderful way to relax in a beautiful region. Other activities available.

March 2 & 3, 2018- Granada, Nicaragua

We now leave Costa Rica, the environment becomes much drier as we travel to the border with Nicaragua.

Now incredible safe and friendly, Nicaragua has had a tumultuous history. Colonial Granada, located on the shore of Lake Nicaragua is a UNESCO listed city.

It could have been – and may yet be – the site of another canal through the Central American isthmus.

This city was the land of Spanish power, pirates and even William Walker – the 19th American who pillaged the city and declared himself the President of Nicaragua.

The city is walkable, friendly and warm. On our full-day, we will take a carriage ride through the colonial street and look for birds and monkeys out on the lake. Your afternoon is free to shop, eat or just relax in one of Central America’s most historic and architecturally important places.

March 4, 2018- Managua, Nicaragua + Departure
